I could understand the one-piece swimsuit rule IF the campers were going to do water sports and games. Just for the girls' ease in not worrying about losing a part of their bikini.

Funny story... I was a lifeguard at a country club pool, where I could wear whatever bathing suit I wanted. I had half a dozen bikinis--one that was strapless. I only wore that one a handful of times because the top would NOT stay up if I dove in the pool. I learned that the hard way because the ONLY times I ever had to rescue someone was when I wore that bikini. I always had to dive in with one hand holding my top.

Not funny story... in 5th and 6th grade at a private religious school, I was in trouble twice for wearing a dress that was too short. The rule was no less than four inches above the knee. My male teacher didn't like me, so getting taken outside and lectured, his cold blue eyes glaring, was a shaming experience.

Then there was age 14 and having (by parental decree) from then on to wear a coverup over my bathing suit on the long walk to the beach when my brother and male cousin didn't have to wear shirts.
